Are winches and electric wire rope hoists the same device?

An electric winch, also known as a winch, is a small lifting device that uses a drum-wound wire rope to raise or pull loads. It can lift loads vertically or pull them horizontally or at an angle. It can be used independently or as a component in machinery for lifting, road construction, or mine hoisting. An electric wire rope hoist is a small lifting device that can be installed independently on I-beams or as an accessory on electric or manual single-beam, double-beam, cantilever, or gantry cranes. What are the differences between them?

1. Lifting Height

Common specifications for electric hoists range from 6 to 30 meters, while common specifications for winches range from 30 to 100 meters.

2. Limit Devices

Electric hoists are equipped with a flameout limiter, while winches do not.

3. Usage

Electric hoists are designed for vertical lifting and cannot be used diagonally. Winches can be used horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

4. Winding Method

Electric hoists use a rope guide, allowing the wire rope to wind regularly. Winches do not have a rope guide, allowing the rope to wind irregularly.
